Report: Rockets will waive Carmelo Anthony soon if he can’t find another team

Carmelo Anthony, Rockets

The Houston Rockets parted ways with Carmelo Anthony Thursday after just 10 games, but the veteran power forward is still on the roster.

Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game with the Rockets while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from beyond the arc in the 10 games he played in. Houston is reportedly waiting to see if another team in the league has interest in Anthony. If there isn’t a market for the 10-time All-Star, the Rockets will then waive him, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

The Rockets bid farewell to Carmelo Anthony on Thursday by announcing he would not be returning to the team. A source said the Rockets will likely waive the 10-time All-Star soon if his agent, Leon Rose, can’t locate a team that is interested in Anthony.

When the Rockets signed Anthony over the summer, the prevailing thought was playing with All-Star point guard Chris Paul and reigning MVP James Harden would help Melo become an effective player in Houston. That wasn’t the case at all, as Anthony was a huge negative for the Rockets when he was on the court. Houston had a net rating of minus-9.0 with Anthony on the floor and plus-1.8 with him on the bench in his 10 games, per NBA.com.

This really could be it for Carmelo Anthony. After a failed one-year experiment with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season and a disastrous 10-game test run with the Rockets, it’s hard to envision another team in the league taking a chance on him.
