Report: Rockets star Chris Paul will return Sunday vs. Magic or Tuesday vs. Pelicans

Chris Paul

Houston Rockets All-Star point guard Chris Paul will reportedly make his return to the lineup this Sunday against the Orlando Magic, or next Tuesday versus the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Kelly Iko of The Atheltic.

Chris Paul injured his hamstring on Dec. 20 against the Miami Heat and has been out ever since.

Entering Thursday, Chris Paul has missed 16 games in a row. The Rockets have gone 11-5.

In his second season with Houston, Chris Paul is averaging 15.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. The nine-time All-Star is shooting 41.5 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line.

CP3 has six double-doubles on the season and one triple-double. The Rockets are 16-10 in Paul’s 26 starts. Reigning MVP James Harden has been on a scoring tear ever since Paul went down. Harden is averaging a staggering 44.2 points in the 16 games which Chris Paul has missed.

The Rockets have an overall record of 27-20 on the season, which is good for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Even though Harden has been playing out of his mind lately, his usage rate is too high and his body is going to wear down soon.

The return of Paul will be huge for Harden and the Rockets so the team has another ball-handler and facilitator.
