Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul will miss Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors with a strained hamstring, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. He is set to be re-evaluated once the team comes back to Houston.
An earlier report by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon indicated that Paul’s injury was “not good” this morning, a grim sign coming into the most pivotal game of the Rockets’s season, with a chance to close out the series on Saturday at Oracle Arena after taking a 3-2 lead in the series following two straight wins.
Paul injured his hamstring late in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s Game 5, hampered by the pain and unable to make it back on defense after suffering the blow.
The perennial All-Star point guard has had a major effect in the Rockets offense and their defensive prowess as a clamp-down one-on-one defender. Paul made a barrage of tough shots on Thursday night, putting up 20 points and six assists, despite a 6-of-19 shooting night.
The Warriors are facing some injury issue of their own, with an unclear picture of Andre Iguodala’s leg injury, which has kept him out of the past two games.
Iguodala had held Paul and teammate James Harden to a combined 1-of-41 from the field as a primary defender throughout the first three games of the series, making him an invaluable asset to the team’s core.
If the Warriors tie up the series on Saturday, there is still a possibility of a Paul return for a potential Game 7 at the Toyota Center, pending the results of his re-evaluation.
