Report: Rockets have talked to Hawks about Kent Bazemore trade this season

The Houston Rockets have again expressed interest in Atlanta Hawks swingman Kent Bazemore, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Hawks have been shopping their wing for a while now, given the rebuilding process they underwent after letting go of their lone remaining piece of contention in Paul Millsap two seasons ago.

The Rockets have been in search of yet another 3-and-D prospect ever since losing Trevor Ariza over the offseason and finding it tough to replace him during the early part of the regular season.

Bazemore is putting up career-high numbers in his fifth season with the Hawks, putting up bests in scoring (14.0 points per game), steals (1.7) and blocks (1.0) as a seventh-year pro.

Furthermore, the Old Dominion product shot a career-best 39.4 percent from deep last season and has canned a decent 38.3 percent from long-range in December after a funky start to his 2018-19 season, a welcome sign for a Houston team that has struggled to hit as many 3s as they did last season.

Baze is expected to receive interest from many other teams at this year’s trade deadline, and it’s likely that Rockets opponents have more to offer in terms of assets than Houston does after giving away plenty when trading for Chris Paul in the 2017 offseason.

The Rockets have climbed their way into the Western Conference postseason race after being a spot away from the cellar to begin the season, and they are now fine-tuning their way into reaching the top four in a closely contested climb.
