REPORT: Rockets had ‘extreme interest’ in bringing Luc Mbah a Moute this offseason

Luc Mbah a Moute, Rockets

The Houston Rockets reportedly had huge interest in bringing Luc Mbah a Moute to the team this offseason.

Mbah a Moute was recently included in Houston’s mini-camp for NBA veterans, but the 33-year-old wing eventually decided to pull out.

According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Rockets had conversations with Luc’s camp throughout the summer about the prospect of reuniting. And while there are concerns over his health, that didn’t stop Houston from showing their interest.

Those closest to Mbah a Moute have repeatedly stressed that he’s had a great recovery and that there are no lingering issues. Houston maintained “extreme interest” in him over the past few months, according to one team source, and had conversations with him over the summer about a possible return to the team. There was still some doubt internally about the health, but there was more than enough comfort in bringing him to training camp.

Mbah a Moute played for the Rockets in 2017-18, putting up one of his best seasons by averaging 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He played for the Los Angeles Clippers last campaign, albeit lasting only four games after sustaining a knee injury.

It remains to be seen if the Rockets will pursue Mbah a Moute after he declined their mini-camp invite. However, based on the reported interest of the team, it won’t be surprising if they opened up negotiations once again.
