Report: Rockets’ Brandon Knight could return in December

Brandon Knight

Brandon Knight could return to the Houston Rockets’ active roster in December. The 6-foot-3 combo guard is still recovering from a knee injury and has not played for his new team yet.

Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic wrote about the recent improvement in the Rockets’ play, including a piece of good news for the team’s backcourt:

A source told The Athletic that the team has been very cautious with Knight and there is a possibility of a return in December. Knight is viewed as someone who can help take minutes from Paul and Harden. Paul is averaging 34.5 minutes per game and Harden 35.8. Knight has been taking shots and going through layup drills before the start of games.

Knight, 26, was acquired by the Rockets from the Phoenix Suns in a deal that centered around stretch forward Ryan Anderson. While the trade was looked at as a move by Houston to get rid of Anderson’s lucrative contract, they also received an athletic young forward in Marquese Chriss and point guard depth in Knight.

Though he has been on the wrong end of DeAndre Jordan’s vicious dunk and Kyrie Irving’s killer crossover, Knight showed signs of being a quality guard before injuries ravaged his last few seasons. He has career averages of 15.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting a 36 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Additionally, Brandon Knight could ease off the load that James Harden and Chris Paul are carrying with their large amount of playing minutes every night. Minutes management is an underestimated factor in every team’s success, and Knight would definitely help the Rockets with quality minutes as a backup playmaker.
