Report: Rockets aggressively pursuing Ryan Anderson trade

Ryan Anderson

As the Houston Rockets try to free up some cap space for this offseason, there is one guy who’s name keeps getting thrown around in trade rumors, Ryan Anderson.

In 2016 a lot of players got more money than they probably deserved, and one of those guys was Ryan Anderson. He received a four year $80 million deal with the Rockets and with the salary cap not rising as much as expected, his contract is becoming a burden on the team.

According to RocketsWire:

“According to two people with knowledge of the Rockets’ thinking, the team’s general manager Daryl Morey is intent on moving Anderson in a trade. One person said the Rockets could pursue buyout options if no such agreement is met. Both people requested anonymity because they are unauthorized to speak on the record of Anderson’s situation.”

Anderson currently has $41 million left on his contract, and the Rockets are going to do anything in their power to get him off their books.

During the season Anderson lost his starting spot to PJ Tucker, and during the Rockets playoff run Anderson had a bench spot with his name on it.

With the Rockets trying to bring in another player to get past the Warriors and Anderson not performing well, it’s crucial they find a way to move on from him.

The Rockets could try to work out a buyout with Anderson, but that also could prove very hard to do. Anderson would probably have to give back a huge part of his salary, and there really is no incentive for him to do that either.
