Report: MLK Day features Warriors vs. Blazers, Lakers vs. Celtics, Rockets vs. Thunder

MLK Day, NBA

The NBA has put on a marquee slate of games for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20, 2020, notably including some of the best teams matching up against one another. The Golden State Warriors will take on the Portland Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Lakers will face the Boston Celtics, and the Houston Rockets will play the Oklahoma City Thunder on this holiday, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The Warriors dispatched the Blazers with a cool 4-0 sweep in the Western Conference Finals and will now have a revamped roster, much different from what they’ve used in recent years to massacre other teams. Portland has reloaded with strong signings and a trade that brought Hassan Whiteside to Rip City, a move that could bring some partial revenge on Golden State, who will likely be without Klay Thompson at that stage of the season.

Nothing says classic more than Lakers vs. Celtics, and this is exactly what the NBA is putting on its center stage on this day. The Lakers have beefed up their star power by teaming LeBron James with Anthony Davis, who can offer all sorts of headaches for first-year Celtics guard Kemba Walker.

Closing out with a banger, Russell Westbrook will face Oklahoma City after 11 seasons with the team, now with partner-in-crime James Harden, as they meet Chris Paul (if he’s still on the roster by then) and a rebuilding roster with stud guard prospect Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

These games will surely make this national holiday plenty enjoyable for NBA fans who prefer to stay near the couch.
