REPORT: Houston Rockets active in trade market, looking to trade Ryan Anderson

Ryan Anderson, Rockets

The Houston Rockets have been active this offseason making adjustments to their roster with many of the changes coming in the frontcourt.

With former All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony set to join the fray on a one-year deal, Brian Windhorst of ESPN is reporting that it has pushed the team to look to once again explore potential trade talks for veteran forward Ryan Anderson.

Anderson has quickly fallen out of favor with the Rockets in the rotation as he’s seen his role diminish as his tenure has gone along. His struggles defensively have pushed him almost entirely out of the rotation. Last season, he averaged 9.3 points on 43.1 percent shooting from the floor and 38.6 percent from beyond the arc with 5.0 rebounds in 66 games played with 50 starts. He was a non-factor in the playoffs averaging just 1.7 points on 35.0 percent shooting from the field in just 8.6 minutes contest in 11 games played.

Even with these shifts in the frontcourt in roster personnel, Anderson still looks like his role will be significantly decreased next season. The 30-year-old has proven to be an effective 3-point shooter over his career, but his struggles defensively have pushed him out of the mix for the Rockets and his lack of true mobility hasn’t helped him stay on the court in head Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo offense.

This isn’t the first time that the Rockets have looked to move on from him as the team had attempted to trade him this past season but there were no serious suitors. Anderson’s four-year, $80 million contract has proven to be hard to move as it is a steep price to take on he still has two more years left on the deal. Houston will likely use the next several weeks to re-up their efforts in trying to find a suitable trade for Anderson to reignite his career elsewhere.
