Earlier this week, the Houston Rockets made the decision to sign veteran point guard Isaiah Canaan to a non-guaranteed deal.
However, the Rockets have made the surprising decision to part ways with Canaan just a few days after he joined the team, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
In a stunning change of direction, the Rockets released Isaiah Canaan on Saturday just four days after signing him to a non-guaranteed contract.
The 26-year-old had played in just one game with the Rockets in Wednesday’s tilt against the New Orleans Pelicans where he had zero points while missing his only field goal attempt and recorded a rebound in four minutes played.
He had been expected to provide more depth in the backcourt due to the absence of All-Star point guard Chris Paul, who is dealing with a nagging bruised left knee that could keep him sidelined for the next few weeks. Caanan also had some previous experience playing in Houston as he spent his first two seasons in the league with the team.
That said, the decision to part ways with the fifth-year guard provides the team with roster flexibility to possibly add another player down the line if need be. The Rockets now have only four guards under contract.
