Report: Houston interested in bringing back Terrence Jones
It wasn’t long ago that Terrence Jones seemed like a fixture of the Houston Rockets’ present and future. Despite his initial tenure with the team coming to a close far more quickly than anyone anticipated, Jones is apparently still on Houston’s radar.
According to ClutchFans, the Rockets are interested in bringing back their first-round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
Rockets like what they have with their minimum signings, especially with Anthony Bennett. The team is looking at bringing Terrence Jones back, per a source.

Houston selected Jones with the No. 18 overall pick in 2012, emerging as the team’s full-time starter at power forward the following season. The University of Kentucky product averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in 2013-14, and put up similar numbers the following season, playing an especially key role during the Rockets’ stunning run to the 2015 Western Conference Finals.
Injuries derailed both his career in Houston and the NBA at large from there, though, with Jones having brief stints with the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks before taking his talents to China. The Rockets brought him back on a 10-day contract in February of last season, with Jones appearing in just two games before his contract expired. He subsequently signed with TNT KaTropa of the Philippine Basketball Association, where he dominated the competition.
Jones, still just 27, profiled as a prototype role-playing big man early in his career. With quick feet for his position, natural shot-blocking instincts, and an emerging long-range jumper, he seemed poised to grow alongside James Harden, helping Houston to annual championship contention.
A few years later, hopes of Jones even scraping his previous NBA ceiling are long gone. But Houston could certainly do worse with one of its final roster spots entering 2019 than a skilled, versatile big man with legitimate postseason experience.
