Report: Clippers, Rockets discussed DeAndre Jordan trade last season

DeAndre Jordan

After the Los Angeles Clippers failed to make it past the Western Conference semifinals during Chris Paul’s six seasons, they decided it was time for a change. In a stunning move to begin the drama-filled offseason, Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets for numerous role players.

However, the Clippers were considering another move with the Rockets during the 2017 NBA trade deadline. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the two teams discussed a potential trade involving DeAndre Jordan for Clint Capela, players, and draft picks:

The Clippers have explored DeAndre Jordan trades, though perhaps only one proposal — a deal which would have sent Jordan to Houston at last season’s trade deadline for Clint Capela, picks and players — ever gained semiserious traction, league sources say.

While there have been conflicting reports about Jordan’s future with the Clippers, the latest has him having conversations about a contract extension prior to the 2017-18 NBA season. After re-signing on a four-year, $87 million deal in 2015, the one-time All-Star has a player option at the end of the season.

For the Clippers, they will face another tough decision with Jordan. While head coach Doc Rivers wants him back and believes they can win a championship around him and Blake Griffin, he acknowledges ‘you also need room in the budget for other people.’
