PJ Tucker says Rockets are ‘one of the top three or four teams in the league’

PJ Tucker says the Houston Rockets are “one of the top three or four teams in the league.”

There was a lot of roster turnover this summer, so there are a few new elite teams in the NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired star power forward Anthony Davis, so they now have AD and LeBron James leading the charge. The Los Angeles Clippers signed two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in free agency and traded for All-Star small forward Paul George.

For the first time in franchise history, the Clippers are title contenders.

The Rockets made a big splash as well, acquiring former MVP Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder. PJ Tucker says the Rockets have a good shot at winning the title next season and that it’s up to the players to make it happen.

Despite the major shake-up and a summer in which numerous NBA superstars changed cities, Tucker said that the Rockets remain “one of the top three or four teams in the league,” with the Golden State Warriors, Clippers, Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers also deserving consideration.

“We’re right there, right where we’ve always been since I’ve been on the Rockets,” Tucker said. “We have a chance to compete for a championship. It’s up to us to put it together again. It’s wide open this year. We’ve got a shot.”

The Rockets are the only team in the league with two MVPs on the roster. The last time two MVPs joined forces was back in 2016 when Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors to play with Stephen Curry.

The Warriors went to three straight Finals in the Durant era and won two rings. The Rockets are hoping Westbrook and James Harden have similar success.
