Pelicans, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Suns made contract offers to Alexey Shved

Alexey Shved, NBA

Euroleague star Alexey Shved continues to draw interest from the NBA, and has turned down contracts from the New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns this off-season.

It’s obvious to see why Shved is hot property at the moment, as he is coming off yet another impressive campaign in which he was crowned scoring champion for the 2017-2018 Euroleague season. Shved’s agent Obrad Fimic told HoopsHype why the dynamic combo guard has chosen not to take any offers, one of which was a $4 million deal for one season.

“Every year there’s active interest for Alexey from NBA teams,” said Obrad Fimic. “This summer, New Orleans, Minnesota, Memphis and Phoenix expressed a willingness to sign him.”

“Next year, Alexey will still be under contract with Khimki, but we’ll be carefully considering offers from the NBA,”, said Fimic. “Everyone says the NBA team will have more available money next summer. Therefore, the probability of his departure will increase”

Shved currently plays his basketball for Russian giant Khimki Moscow where it looks like he’ll remain for at least one more season. Despite the tempting offers from NBA front offices, Shved did sign a lucrative extension with the Russian ball club, which is another reason why his agent is waiting for the increase of money in the NBA set to spike next summer before making the switch.

The six-foot-six guard is in no rush, as he has already played in the association and knows what the game is like in the United States. The 29-year-old first played in the NBA in 2012 for the Timberwolves. He was there for two seasons before heading to the Philadelphia 76ers. The very next campaign he made his way to Texas to join the Houston Rockets before undergoing a brief stint for the New York Knicks. After never really finding a consistent home, he then returned to Russia in the summer of 2015 and has been there ever since.

Although he has already had a taste of NBA basketball, Shved is not satisfied, and will not close the door on a potential return to the league.

“I don’t close the door to the NBA, I waited for offers from the USA. There were several options that didn’t suit me. “

The timing may be off right now, but look for another European talent to enter the league at the end of next season as Shved continues to impress overseas.
