Pelicans’ Jrue Holiday leaves game vs Rockets with facial laceration

The New Orleans Pelicans’ roster seems to be one of the most brittle in the league today. The team has been on a carousel ride of ailments, and now, the Pelicans saw yet another one of their key players go down with an injury. According to the Pelicans’ Twitter account, Jrue Holiday has left Saturday night’s home game against the visiting Houston Rockets with a facial laceration.

As mentioned in the tweet, Holiday is deemed probable to make it back to the game, leaving a thin backcourt for the Pelicans, who are already missing the services of Rajon Rondo due to rest purposes. If Holiday gets ultimately ruled out for the rest of the contest, it would be a punch to the gut of New Orleans. Holiday was playing well just before he departed for the locker room, scoring 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field in 14 minutes of action. If that would the case, Larry Drew III, Ian Clark, and DeAndre Liggins will all share backcourt duties against Houston.

The Pelicans need Holiday healthy the rest of the way this regular season with New Orleans precariously sitting on the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings. Entering the Rockets game, the Pelicans are only 1.5 games ahead of the Denver Nuggets, who are ninth in the conference’s standings.

UPDATE: Jrue Holiday has returned to the game following the halftime break.

On the season, Holiday is averaging 19.3 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from deep.
