Paul Pierce thinks Rockets backcourt has the ‘resume’ edge

The Houston Rockets are considered the underdogs in their Western Conference Finals matchup against the Golden State Warriors. But in the backcourt wars, Paul Pierce believes that the Rockets have the edge.

Below is the clip, as posted by Twitter user Bo. St. Jean:

It’s difficult to tell what Pierce was referring to when he said “resume.” The Warriors’ backcourt — Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry — both have two championships to their name along with multiple All-Star and All-NBA team selections. Curry, lest we forget, is also a two-time MVP.

James Harden and Chris Paul, on the other hand, have yet to win a championship. Both have been top candidates for the MVP at some point in their career. Harden, in fact, is touted to win the award this season. They have also been selected to the All-Star game multiple times and have been part of the All-NBA teams.

Other than that, it seems that the Warriors backcourt have the advantage. Whatever Pierce was referring to, maybe he has to explain a bit more. The Warriors recently took Game 1 over the Rockets, 109-116.

Harden had 41 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Paul had 23 points, three assists, and 11 rebounds. For the Warriors, Thompson had 37 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Curry just had 18 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.

The stat lines prove that the Rockets backcourt are better individual players. Yet this does not necessarily mean that they possess the better resumes. Basketball, after all, is a team game. The Warriors proved this fact convincingly tonight.
