Patty Mills says Spurs players are ’embarrassed’ after another blowout loss

Patty Mills

Another day, another blowout loss for the San Antonio Spurs.

The start of this season has not been ideal for the Spurs, and players are starting to feel ashamed of what’s happening after another disheartening result against the Houston Rockets on Friday night.

“Guys feel embarrassed and deflated, and rightfully so,” said Spurs point guard Patty Mills said after after bowing to the Rockets by 31 points on Friday, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.

“It’s the big picture. It’s who we represent when we put these jerseys on. It’s who we play for.

“It’s much bigger than that, and we need to understand that we are here just for a short time amongst this organization that will be here for a lot longer than we are. We’ve got to take pride in that.”

The 136-105 obliteration by the Rockets is the second straight game the Spurs have lost by at least 30 points. San Antonio bowed to the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-89 just days before.

Per The Score, this is only the second time the franchise has lost two straight games by at least 30 points. The first time it happened was on Nov. 25 and 27, 1987 against the Indiana Pacers (133-102) and Detroit Pistons (143-111).

The Spurs are definitely different this season compared to before. Previously an established Western Conference powerhouse, they are now looking for a new identity. This can be attributed to major changes that took place in the offseason.

They traded 2014 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in a blockbuster deal that brought in DeMar DeRozan. Furthermore, Tony Parker left the franchise for the Charlotte Hornets and Manu Ginobili retired.

The next two weeks will not be easy for the 10-12 Spurs. They will face the Portland Trail Blazers next before taking on the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz twice each.
