P.J. Tucker on how Rockets’ win vs. Celtics will translate to playoffs

Basketball fans got to enjoy one heck of a game on Saturday night between two teams who could potentially meet in the NBA Finals in June. At Toyota Center, the Houston Rockets rallied past the Boston Celtics and managed to hold on for a thrilling 123-120 win, Houston’s 15th victory in a row.

Rockets small forward P.J. Tucker, who had nine points and a clutch steal, is fully aware that these are the types of games Houston needs to win in order to be champions.

Via a postgame interview with Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston:

“No question we’re going to have to win a few of those to win a championship,” Tucker said. “That was definitely a playoff game tonight. One of those nights where you’re not making every shot and not doing every thing, but you figure out a way to gut it out and get a win.”

Sometimes, being able to grind out the uglier games will tell P.J. Tucker and his teammates about the true character of their team.

“Game wasn’t pretty for us. We weren’t making all the shots. James and Chris didn’t go crazy.

We literally needed everybody on our team to step up and do something tonight,” Tucker said after the victory. “To go on these kinds of win streaks, these are the games you’ve got to grind out and win.”

Saturday night’s win was quite an impressive showing of grit by the Rockets, to say the least. Tucker and his Houston teammates will look for their 16th straight win on Tuesday night when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
