P.J. Tucker can only laugh at the idea of containing Kevin Durant

P.J. Tucker was one of the key acquisitions of the Houston Rockets this season. While he’s a decent 3-point shooter, his main role is to defend the opposing team’s star player. In the Western Conference Finals, he’ll most likely be matched-up against elite scorer Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors.

As reported by Drew Shiller of NBC Sports, the 33-year-old was asked how he plans to contain Durant, letting out a laugh while answering the question:

“Ummmmmm….” Tucker said before pausing and then laughing out loud. “He’s, I mean, maybe the best scorer in the league.”

“I don’t know,” Tucker said. “I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to that. You do what you can. You try to pick him up early, you try to get physical.

“He’s gonna try to counter it with something. It’s a chess match. You try to figure it out as the game’s going on. Each game is different.”

Tucker was simply being honest with his reply. His job is to give Durant a hard time on the offensive end. He will never totally shut him down.

Durant, a four-time scoring champion, placed sixth in points per game in the regular season, logging in 26.4 per contest. He has evolved into one of the most lethal offensive threats in the game, ever since moving to the Warriors — whose offensive system is the most sophisticated in the league.
