Owner Tilman Fertitta admits Rockets are now ‘hunting’ Clippers, Lakers, Jazz, Blazers, Nuggets, Warriors

For the past few seasons, Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta and general manager Daryl Morey have openly talked about how they want to beat the Golden State Warriors.

It never happened, though, as the Rockets have lost to the Warriors in the last two postseasons and three out of their last four playoff trips.

Next season, the Rockets won’t be just “hunting” the Warriors anymore, as there are five other elite teams in the Western Conference now — according to Tilman Fertitta.

“I can honestly tell you this: Now we’re hunting the Clippers, the Lakers, the Jazz, the Trail Blazers, the Nuggets and the Warriors,” Fertitta told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “It’s going to be exciting.

“Let’s be honest, it’s really going to be who doesn’t have the injuries and who’s healthy. And you know, it’s going to be good. I think that we realize we’ve got to have a team that’s pretty deep in all areas because you’re going to have to beat — there’s no telling who you’re going to have to play. There’s no telling who you’re going to have to play from the East. Are you going to be playing Toronto again or Boston or Philly or, you know, Brooklyn? Who knows?”

The Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard and traded for Paul George; the Lakers acquired Anthony Davis, giving LeBron James the second star he needs to contend for a championship; the Jazz acquired Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies; the Nuggets are counting on Nikola Jokic to take the next step; the Blazers have Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, along with a nice supporting cast; the Warriors have three All-Stars in the starting lineup in Stephen Curry, D’Angelo Russell and Draymond Green.

So, the West is going to be a bloodbath next season and the Rockets have to be fixated on beating everyone, not just the Warriors.
