Old tweet resurfaces of Rockets’ Russell Westbrook saying he’s ‘on his way to Houston’

An old tweet from Russell Westbrook resurfaced after the superstar was traded to the Houston Rockets on Thursday.

Fans started retweeting a post from Westbrook in 2009, where he said that he was on his way to Houston. The tweet got a lot of attention shortly after the Oklahoma City Thunder dealt the former NBA Most Valuable Player.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Thunder sent Westbrook to the Rockets. In return, they got superstar guard Chris Paul along with 2024 and 2026 first-round picks, and two pick swaps in 2021 and 2025. The trade ended the 30-year-old’s 11-year stint with the Thunder, who drafted him fourth overall in 2008.

The Westbrook trade became possible after the Thunder were forced to part ways with Paul George last week. George requested for a trade because of his desire to play with Kawhi Leonard. Oklahoma City gave into the request, sending the superstar forward to the Los Angeles Clippers, who eventually signed Leonard to a three-year deal.

Wojnarowski revealed that Westbrook informed the Thunder that Houston is his preferred destination because he wanted to reunite with James Harden, and the OKC front office obliged.

Harden and Westbrook played together for three seasons in Oklahoma City before Harden moved to Houston in 2012.
