No NBA trades since Rockets’ Russell Westbrook’s trade to Rockets in July, longest streak since 1968

Remember this past summer, when the NBA was like a turnstile of “what big move will happen next”? Blockbusters were happening in the middle of the night and the Western Conference went from being deep to an utter war zone.

Well, things have quieted down considerably since then.

There has not been a single trade since the Russell Westbrook-Chris Paul transaction with the Houston Rockets back in July, the longest streak of inactivity since 1968 (via Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype):

According to our research, that is actually the longest the NBA has been without a trade since 1968 – excluding seasons shortened by lockouts. In fact, for the first time ever in a non-lockout season, this is the first time there have been no trades in August, September, October or November.

Part of this inactivity could actually stem from the fact that this offseason was so chaotic, as noted by the Rockets’ deal involving Westbrook. As Kalbrosky notes, a whopping six players that made All-NBA teams switched rosters this summer, which is easily the highest number in history.

This is not to say that there have not been plenty of rumors with respect to the trade market. With the San Antonio Spurs getting off to a slow start, DeMar DeRozan’s name has gotten a ton of shine as of late.

Additionally, the superb play of Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet could make things interesting for Kyle Lowry, especially given that he is on an expiring contract.

Essentially, most NBA teams are still figuring things out. Who knows, despite all the current dormancy, the 2020 trade deadline could be among the most explosive in league history.
