Nene’s deal with Rockets for 2 years at league minimum, 2nd year non-guaranteed

Nene, Rockets

Nene Hilario has confirmed that he will be returning to the Houston Rockets for the coming season. The former No. 7 overall pick reportedly signed a two-year veteran’s minimum deal with the team, with the second year being non-guaranteed.

Nene sent out an Instagram post to announce that he would be returning to the Rockets:

“I want to thank all my friends, family, and fans for the support and love with me, because I couldn’t do it without you guys,” Nene wrote in the post featuring an image with Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.

Nene, now 36 years of age, joins newly-signed big man Tyson Chandler as backup centers for the Rockets behind Clint Capela. In his 42 appearances with Houston last season (two starts), the Brazilian-born big man racked up averages of 3.6 points on 51.7 percent shooting from the field and 2.9 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per outing.

“They’ve been good to me since the first day,” Nene said in an interview with Mark Berman of FOX 26, referring to his decision to rejoin the Rockets. “They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. When they talked to me about signing the first time, I had been through a lot of adversity. The Houston Rockets, they’ve been good to me. That’s why.”

The Rockets finished the 2018-19 regular season with an impressive 53-29 overall record, which earned the team a No. 4 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately, though, Houston was defeated by the Golden State Warriors in the second round, 4-2.
