NBA observers predict Marquese Chriss will flourish with Rockets
There’s no sugarcoating it, Marquese Chriss has been bad in his first two seasons in the league. The former Washington Husky is super athletic with tons of upside but never quite put it together with the Phoenix Suns. Still, some believe the Houston Rockets are the right situation for the 6-foot-10 forward.
“Chriss will flourish in Houston. They’ll ask him to run the floor, score around the rim and rebound. Nothing complicated. He’ll look like the guy everyone liked at the draft a couple years ago.”
According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, one trusted observer believes Chriss will take the next step playing alongside James Harden.
Chriss entered the league with high expectations as the eighth overall pick in the 2016 draft but he struggled mightily with the Suns. Luckily, Chriss is entering a perfect situation in Houston playing with two of the best guards in the league. Chris Paul and James Harden should be able to unlock the potential in Chriss’ game.
The two All-Star guards are better than anyone Chriss played with in Phoenix. Limited to running the floor and seeking opportunities at the rim, the 22-year-old’s athleticism and shooting potential should be an intriguing fit in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense.
A change of scenery can be exactly what players need sometimes. Perhaps Chriss will flourish in Houston.
