NBA news: Isiah Thomas to present Tracy McGrady at Hall of Fame

Tracy McGrady

In the early 2000’s, Tracy McGrady was mentioned among the best perimeter players alongside Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Vince Carter. Unfortunately, the second half of his 16-year career was marred by injuries.

Since retirement in 2013, there have been debates if McGrady should be in the Naismith Hall of Fame. Criticized for not winning enough, the seven-time All-Star was voted in and Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas will be presenting him into the Hall of Fame according to Ryan Wolstat of Toronto Sun:

After averaging 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in his career, McGrady will join Kansas head coach Bill Self, Rebecca Lobo, and numerous basketball legends. While the debates will continue about his place in league history, he mentioned any player can win a championship, but not every player can get into the Hall of Fame like him.

Thomas, who was the Toronto Raptors part owner and executive vice president at the time, selected McGrady with the ninth overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft straight out of school. At that time, there were very few who made the jump from high school and McGrady was one of first perimeter players.

The special event will be held Friday, Sept. 8 at Springfield Symphony Hall.
