Mike D’Antoni will look to Eric Gordon as playmaker if Chris Paul misses Game 6
With Chris Paul’s situation hanging in the balance, Mike D’Antoni quickly devised a strategy if his star guard misses Game 6. He will call on Eric Gordon’s number to suit up as the Houston Rockets’ playmaker.
As reported by Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, D’Antoni will rely on Gordon to call the shots on the floor if Paul is not fit to suit up come Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals:
Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said Eric Gordon will move to the role of playmaker if Chris Paul doesn’t return from a hamstring injury in Game 6.

Paul went down in the final minute of Game 6 after attempting a floater over Quinn cook. It seemed like a non-contact play, no one appeared hurt. Yet as Paul got up, he was limping and apparently holding his right hamstring. To recall, Paul missed several games in the regular season due to a couple of injuries, including some soreness in the right foot.
After the game, D’Antoni asked questions about what his game plan will be without Paul. As reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN:
“We’ll see [if he can play Game 6 on Saturday]. He’ll be evaluated tomorrow, but obviously you saw him limp off, and he’s a tough guy,” D’Antoni said. “They’ll do whatever they can do. If he’s there, great, good for him. If he isn’t, we have enough guys, it’s time for somebody else to step up. … We’ll be all right. We just have to continue what we’re doing.”
Gordon is mostly known as a 3-point assassin and offensive gunner but has shown some promise in his playmaking ability in some games. Hopefully, this will be enough as the Rockets are just one win away from making it to the NBA Finals — the game’s biggest stage.
