No team was able to solve the Golden State Warriors’ offense last season. The Warriors made their way into capturing their second Larry O’Brien Trophy in three years back in June mostly by riding a frenetic offense that had so many deadly offensive talents that it proved impossible for opponents to stop Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and company altogether.
Playing defense against the Warriors often look like a practice in futility, and Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni is seemingly too aware of it.
According to Tim McMahon of ESPN, D’Antoni has already reached the realization that the Warriors are going to be unstoppable on offense and there’s little he could do defensively with his team to slow Golden State whenever it’s on the attack. On the flipside, D’Antoni also believes the Warriors will not be able to put the clamps on his Rockets’ offense either.

That Mike D’Antoni admitted his team is unlikely to have defensive success against the Warriors isn’t exactly fresh news. He’s never been known to be a defensive guru, opting to beat teams by fighting fire with fire on offense.
The Warriors and the Rockets were No. 1 and No. 2 in points per game last season, but in fairness to Golden State, they play a more balanced game than Houston. In fact, the Warriors were second in defensive rating in the NBA in the 2016-17 campaign while the Rockers were way below them at 18th overall.
The Rockets will play the Warriors on opening day, so this statement from Mike D’Antoni should serve as an added spice to this intriguing matchup.
