Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni didn’t take kindly to Draymond Green’s comments prior to last night’s season-opener against the Golden State Warriors.
With one-day bragging rights after a one-point upset of the reigning champions, D’Antoni darted back at Green after he said his team didn’t take defense very seriously.
“Somebody said we don’t take it seriously on defense,” said D’Antoni, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle. “Well obviously, they don’t take it seriously either.”

The Rockets stayed within striking distance and managed to recover from a 13-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, doing just enough to get past the Warriors in a 122-121 offensive war that favored the Rockets after a last-second Kevin Durant baseline jumper proved a whisker too late to net the Warriors a win on ring night.
Houston was able to capitalize on Golden State’s late turnovers and Green’s absence in the fourth quarter, after he left with a knee injury after shooting a pair of free-throws at the end of the fourth quarter.
The dynamic between James Harden and Chris Paul in the backcourt came into question as well, as D’Antoni’s system seemed to mirror that of last year with Harden dominating the ball at the end of the game and Paul out on the sidelines with a knee injury.
D’Antoni said his point guard was “playing in one leg” for parts of the game.
