Mike D’Antoni addresses prospect of Rockets’ rematch with Warriors

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni is looking forward to facing the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

After guiding his Rockets over the Utah Jazz, D’Antoni entertained the likely prospect of a rematch of last year’s West Finals. The Warriors lead their layoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers, 4-1.

After a historic collapse from 3-point territory against the Warriors in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals last year — during which Houston missed a ludicrous 27 straight 3-pointers to allow Golden State to make its fourth straight NBA Finals appearance — Mike D’Antoni and his Rockets have not shied away from discussing the team’s likely matchup against them in the postseason.

Of course, most people expected that that contest wouldn’t occur in the second round, but perhaps it’s for the better for Houston.

All the players are relatively fresh and healthy on Houston, which was not the case last year after Chris Paul suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of the final two games of the series — a critical juncture.

Either way, the second round in both conferences should be exciting, with a Warriors-Rockets match-up being the marquee series as the NBA playoffs continue.
