Los Angeles Lakers forward Markieff Morris and Houston Rockets center DeMarcus Cousins have each been fined after engaging in a bit of a scuffle in Sunday’s game between the two teams.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Morris has been fined $35,000 for his role, while Cousins has been fined $10,000.

Morris and “Boogie” were slapped with double technicals late in the first quarter after getting into a shoving match following Morris’ flagrant 1 foul on rookie Rockets forward Jae’Sean Tate.
Cousins shoved Morris before going to help Tate up from the floor, and the Lakers talent was ejected after rushing Cousins in retaliation.
Rockets head coach Stephen Silas said after the game he felt Cousins was standing up for the rookie:
“I thought [Cousins] was sticking up for his teammate on the first part, the first technical, and I’ll support him 100% when he’s sticking up for his teammate,” Silas said, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “He was sticking up for Jae’Sean. He wasn’t going to allow anything to happen to his rookie, and I think that’s admirable.”
But Cousins himself was not long for finishing the remainder of the game.
The four-time All-Star was ejected after committing a flagrant 2 foul on LeBron James early in the second quarter. Cousins clipped the Lakers superstar on the top of the head while going for a strip, but the referees said the wind-up and force of the contact necessitated an ejection.
Both Morris and Cousins have fairly established “tough guy” statuses. But the two veterans have to pay the price for Sunday’s on-court altercation.
Houston and Los Angeles square off once again on Tuesday night.
