Luc Mbah A Moute could make Rockets return in conference semis

Luc Mbah a Moute

The Houston Rockets are operating at full tilt so far this postseason, and did so also all throughout the regular season. But something is different about the Rockets in the playoffs, and that’s the absence of Luc Mbah a Moute, Houston’s defensive specialist.

Mbah a Moute suffered a dislocated right shoulder just before the regular season ended. It was during a win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He was soon ruled out for the first round.

The injury did not require surgery, and Mbah a Moute has been resting and rehabbing ever since. And since the Rockets beat the Timberwolves in five games and the Jazz and Thunder haven’t finished their series, he can get some extra time to rest.

But some good news came out Monday about Mbah a Moute’s status. Per Adam Wexler, he will be evaluated during the next series and could return before it’s over.

If Mbah a Moute is able to return sometime during the next series, that will give the Rockets a boost. While Houston won in five games, its defense has definitely seen some slippage. Against the Timberwolves, that is not too much of an issue. But as the rounds get tougher, the Rockets will need to defend in order to make it out alive.

Mbah a Moute will definitely help on that front. He is long and can guard multiple positions, and will work well with lineups that switch screen-roll actions. He would give the Rockets a formidable defensive weapon for when they go up against the Warriors in the conference finals.
