LeBron James defers to Lakers front office on whether to pick up Carmelo Anthony or not

Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James

With Carmelo Anthony’s release from the Houston Rockets imminent, rumors have been swirling on his next destination. The Los Angeles Lakers, led by his good buddy LeBron James, have been identified as the 10-time All-Star’s next stop.

When asked about the prospect of his friend joining him in L.A., James could not provide a straight answer.

“I have no idea, to be honest,” James said, per Kyle Goon of the Los Angeles Daily News. “That’s not a question to ask me. Right now we have 15 roster spots, right? We don’t even have a roster spot open right now. But that’s not a question for myself.”

LeBron James refused to entertain the loaded question, and instead, deferred to the Lakers front office. As he explained, there is literally no room for Carmelo Anthony on the squad right now, and if the Lakers are indeed interested, they will need to free one roster spot for the 34-year-old.

After teaming up with good buddy Chris Paul in Houston — a move that turned out to be an absolute letdown — reports have emerged that James may be willing to throw Anthony a bone. The Lakers signed a handful of veterans over the summer, and perhaps, they might find some use for the former NBA scoring champion.

However, with LeBron James’ recent statement here, it appears that this move will not come to fruition. James did not want to even entertain the idea, so an L.A. move for Carmelo Anthony is looking bleak at this point.
