Last 2 Minute Report rules it was inconclusive if Klay Thompson stepped out of bounds before scoring final basket of Game 5
The last 14 minutes of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinal between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets were as wild as any NBA fan could ask for in a playoff series. Klay Thompson was at the center of the action.
Golden State had as large as a 20-point lead in the first half, but the Rockets clawed back into the game behind some hot shooting from deep and a subsequent three-point drought from Golden State amidst shooting struggles from both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
With just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Kevin Durant knocked down a jumper and immediately grabbed his right leg. It would later be revealed that Durant had suffered a mild calf strain, and he would be ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
The Rockets had a wonderful opportunity to seize the series lead on Golden State’s home floor, but Curry and Klay Thompson both got hot in the fourth quarter, which was mostly a stalemate heading toward the final minutes.
After James Harden scored on a driving layup to cut Houston’s deficit to 102-99, the Warriors took the ball out on the sideline with 18 seconds remaining. In a wild scramble, Klay Thompson eventually ended up with a loose ball and scored to give the Warriors the five-point lead and wrap up the win.
After the game, replays appeared to show that Thompson may have stepped out of bounds while he was being double-teamed after the inbounds play, but ESPN’s Tim McMahon reports that the NBA’s Last 2 Minute Report found replays to be inconclusive:
NBA’s Last 2 Minute Report ruled that it was inconclusive whether Klay Thompson stepped out of bounds before getting rid of the ball on the Warriors’ last possession. As with replay, there has to be clear, conclusive evidence to declare a call wrong. Replays didn’t show that. pic.twitter.com/5WojH058w4

A turnover would have given the Rockets a chance to tie the game, but instead they will have to return to Houston for Game 6 hoping to keep their season alive and send the series back to Oakland for Game 7 on Sunday.
