Lakers’ Rajon Rondo allegedly instigated fight by spitting on the Rockets’ Chris Paul

Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo don’t like each other. Apparently, it’s a known fact to those who have followed the careers of both players through the years. Now, the world knows about their beef after what happened late in the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.

Ironically, Paul and Rondo weren’t involved in the initial confrontation as James Harden and Brandon Ingram got into it for a quick second after the former fished for a foul on the latter. As it turned out, years of bad blood between the two point guards reached a boiling point, ending up in a fiery exchange of punches.

From the videos circulating online, it appears that the Rockets star started the fight as he poked Rondo’s face. However, ESPN’s Rachel Nicholls reports that it was actually the Lakers veteran who made the first provocation. And it wasn’t just the regular trash talk:

Chris Paul told our broadcast crew this all started because Rajon Rondo spit in his face. When the second replay cycles through you can see Chris wiping his face before he goes at Rondo.

These are two feisty personalities and, given their history with each other, a little shove could have led to a fight. But this allegation against Rondo takes it to another level.

In the end, Paul had the last laugh as the Rockets beat the Lakers in Los Angeles behind his huge 28-point performance. But after the league office hands down the penalties on all players involved, none of them would be smiling.
