Lakers’ Danny Green views Rockets as potential dark-horse team

Danny Green, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Rockets, Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers head into the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida as one of the teams to beat in the Western Conference. LeBron James and company will be rested, healthy, and ready to go with two new additions, JR Smith and Dion Waiters, eager to help this team win it all.

Along with the Lakers, the L.A. Clippers are expected to be a force to be reckoned with and more than likely be the team that goes head-to-head against Frank Vogel’s squad in the Western Conference Finals. Although the Clippers will be the team the Lakers are keeping a close eye on, there are a couple of dark-horse candidates in the West as Danny Green pointed out to Tomer Azarly and I on the Battle for LA Podcast recently.

“I would say Houston, but them operating the bubble might be tough, we’ll see how that goes for them,” Green said on the Battle for LA Podcast. “I think Denver is one of those teams. Trying to think of who else might be up in there that has been playing well. I also don’t know whose full roster is coming, there’s a lot of guys opting not to go.”

The Houston Rockets are an interesting team that seemed to reinvent themselves midseason. The Russell Westbrook trade was starting to look like a bust as he struggled to find his way in Houston, but then the team chose to start playing small ball and were able to turn things around.

Even though the Rockets began to struggle once again before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March, Houston could be a dark-horse team in the West that can’t be taken lightly moving forward.
