Lakers coach Luke Walton doesn’t think he deserved to be ejected

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton was not at all happy in the third quarter of his team’s matchup against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

With the Lakers slowly losing the 18-point lead they had amassed at halftime, Walton was understandably not in a jovial mood. So much so, that his emotions got the better of him, as he was ejected after allegedly berating the officials a bit too much.

However, following his team’s 138-134 overtime defeat, Walton explained why, in his mind, he did not deserve to get tossed for his actions:

“The first technical I deserved,” Walton said, per Bill Oram of The Athletic. “Second one, all I said was ‘You guys are funny. This is really funny.’ That’s all I said. I wasn’t yelling anymore, I wasn’t screaming anymore. I was shocked that I got thrown out for that. I’ve heard a lot worse, I’ve said a lot worse, but it is what it is.”

If what Walton is saying here is true, then perhaps the referees were a bit too quick on their whistle. Then again, the officials may not have liked Walton’s tone or how he said what he said, and decided in the moment that the coach deserved to get his second T of the evening.

Walton’s ejection did nothing to fire up the Lakers, who allowed James Harden and co. to eat into the huge cushion they had built in the first two periods. The young team’s lack of experience was on display again, as the Rockets snapped the Lakers’ two-game winning streak on Saturday.
