Knicks rumors: Carmelo Anthony’s camp cautiously optimistic trade to Rockets will get done by Monday

Carmelo Anthony and his camp have become “cautiously optimistic” a trade between his New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets will get done by Monday, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

The two sides were reportedly at the “two-yard line” back in July, but had been rather mute during this long offseason, unable to find a third partner to give the Knicks the assets they seek in return.

Both teams had discussed a potential third to come into this equation, but ultimately have had difficulty as most around the league have done their best effort to stop the further creation of super teams.

Isola himself described the very web keeping this deal from coming to fruition, with two franchises hellbent on getting their way through this process, failing time after time trying to fit a circle piece into a square peg.

“The Knicks under new team president Steve Mills and new general manager Scott Perry are well within their right to wait for the best deal possible before finally sending Carmelo on his way,” Isola wrote. “The problem, however, is that Carmelo has limited his trade list to one team, the Rockets. So, unless Houston can find someone to take Ryan Anderson’s contract (he’s owed over $60M over the next three seasons), Carmelo is stuck in limbo.”

Another thing keeping the Knicks from trading him elsewhere is Melo’s ultimate trump card in his no-trade clause, giving him the ultimate say in where, how and when he goes.

Two weeks ago, Anthony’s wife, La La, said the family thought a trade would have been completed by this time, but it hasn’t gotten any close as of yet.

The Knicks introduced new additions Jarrett Jack and Michael Beasley to the media, the latter telling reporters he has heard nothing from the front office on having plans to trade his “mentor” Anthony.

The 14-year veteran has spent his summer training with his former Knicks trainer, now-personal trainer Chris Brickley in the famed Blackout Sessions, bringing out the sensation that has been “Hoodie Melo.”

New York is scheduled to have its media day today, likely making this a very awkward situation if Anthony is in a Knicks uniform answering a myriad of questions about his departure, which he’s sure to be peppered with.
