The New York Knicks were once again beaten on their home floor this time in a 22-point rout at the hands of the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets shot an effective 54 percent from the floor and nailed 22 three-pointers at a 48 percent clip — now scoring at least a ridiculous 22 threes made per game (68 through three preseason games).
The Knicks were highly disappointed at their second loss at Madison Square Garden after having lost to the crosstown rivals Brooklyn Nets in the preseason opener.
“We’re competitors. It’s never good to have someone doing that on your floor,” said forward Lance Thomas, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley.
“We’re going to watch film. We’re going to remember what that felt like. We’re going to do our part to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek seemed annoyed not only at the result, unsurprised by his counterpart Mike D’Antoni leaving star James Harden in during the fourth quarter (logged 37 minutes in his third preseason game), but indicating he wasn’t happy with the move.
Harden dropped 36 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds during a Chris Paul-less outing, with the former indicating he wasn’t trying to show the Knicks up late, but doing so because the regular season opener is next week.
