Kings could be involved in Carmelo Anthony, Clint Capela offseason moves

There’s already a youth movement in Sacramento but the Kings are not done yet. In fact, Sacramento could be dipping its toes in the Carmelo Anthony and Clint Capela situations, per David Weiner of ClutchFans.

The Sacramento Kings are now the last team able to materially facilitate a Carmelo Anthony salary dump trade for OKC. They’re also the last team able to make an offer sheet to Clint Capela for remotely close to his demands.

The Oklahoma City Thunder remain in talks with other teams as they look for a most suitable deal to rid themselves of Anthony’s $28 million. It’s not an easy sell as the former All-Star is clearly a shadow of his old self which was made even more glaring by his performance in the 2017-18 season — the worst of his career.
Sacramento could potentially engage with Oklahoma City as a third team, simply because having Anthony in their roster doesn’t add up.
Meanwhile, Capela and the Rockets are separated by money — that’s it. The Swiss center is coming off a breakout campaign and is looking to cash in big this summer, even rumored to have rejected an $85 million offer by Houston. Capela is a restricted free agent which makes his ordeal trickier. Then again, the Kings did offer a $78 million deal to Zach LaVine who’s had an ACL injury, making Capela an even more valuable player.
However, if Capela turned down $85 million from a championship contender, one can imagine the type of money it would take for him to join one of the league’s perennial cellar dwellers in Sacramento.
