Kevin Durant says Rockets’ James Harden is ‘deceptively quick’
Houston Rockets superstar guard James Harden isn’t lighting quick like De’Aaron Fox or Russell Westbrook, but Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant says The Beard is “deceptively quick.”
Durant says Harden knows how to change the pace at which he plays very well. The Rockets’ best player often lulls defenders to sleep with his slow play before exploding to the basket.
Durant talked about Harden’s unique skill set with reporters on Friday:
Kevin Durant on @JHarden13: “He’s deceptively quick..He uses his change of pace and speed at the elite level, probably in the history of the game as far as slowing down and lulling you to sleep and speeding up..throws defenders off. He’s an unstoppable player.” #Rockets pic.twitter.com/MplWOhcclu

Through the first two games of the Warriors-Rockets series, James Harden is averaging 32.0 points while shooting 38.3 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from beyond the arc. Durant and the Warriors are doing their job: they’re makings things difficult for Harden and forcing the reigning MVP to take a lot of shots to get his points.
The Rockets are down 0-2 in the series. They have to win Game 3, otherwise the series is essentially over since no team in NBA history has come back from a 0-3 deficit in the playoffs.
Harden will never be described as a one-man fast break like LeBron James, John Wall (when he’s healthy), Fox or Westbrook. However, Harden is elite at getting to the rim and finishing in heavy traffic. It’s that one second where the defender might turn his head to see where the pick is coming from when Harden changes speeds and breaks defenses down.
