Despite losing the season series against the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors forwards Kevin Durant and Draymond Green are not losing any sleep over dropping their second game to the Rockets this season. After the game, Durant was asked if the loss mattered to the team. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, the reigning Finals MVP said:
“No. The season starts over when you’re in the playoffs anyway, so it doesn’t matter. You’re going to have to get through these teams to get to where you want to go. You have to play at home and on the road, so it really doesn’t matter. We just want to be playing good basketball when it comes down to that point.”
Green echoed a similar sentiment and downplayed the loss, that snapped the Warriors road winning streak:
“It’s game 40-what? Seven, eight? Who we play on Tuesday? We just got to get ready for [New York]. Home court will take care of itself down the road.”
Despite having 31 assists and shooting 47.2 percent from behind the three-point arc, the Warriors’ 19 turnovers and issues in the final minutes of the contest cost them the game. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Warriors only scored two points in the last four minutes of the game. They shot 1-for-8 in that span and missed all five of their three-point attempts. In contrast, the Rockets scored 11 points and shot 3-for-5, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, in the same period.
Good games from Green and Durant were not enough to lift the team above the second-seeded Rockets. The Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, struggled badly. They combined for only 27 points in 9-for-31 shooting. Rockets fans are desperate to see how their team does against the defending champions come playoffs time.
