Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, big man Kenneth Faried agreed to a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets. He is now heading to the Houston Rockets once becoming an official free agent.
Brooklyn’s Kenneth Faried has agreed to a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets, clearing the way for him to sign a free agent deal with the Houston Rockets, league sources tell ESPN. Faried expected to be waived on Saturday and clear on Monday.

Kenneth Faried was a long-time member of the Denver Nuggets. They had traded him to the Nets this past summer in a deal that also sent Darrel Arthur along with a future first and second-round pick for Isaiah Whitehead. This was a cap-clearing maneuver by the Nuggets and allowed them to get off of over 13 million dollars, per Spotrac.
Faried had been fairly successful this season for the Nets. He’s hardly played at all, and his now-former head coach Kenny Atkinson has spoken at length about the roster situation.
Atkinson had told Brian Lewis of the New York Post back in December:
“I just hope we can get him an opportunity. He’s been fantastic. I don’t feel great about it, because he’s been fantastic. It’s weird, some guys, they check out. He hasn’t. I’m telling you the honest truth, it’s a situational thing. And the other guys have got to start playing badly for him to get a chance.”
The only real minutes Kenneth Faried had received all season long was in a Saturday game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He filled in for Ed Davis (rest), scoring a season-high 21 points with 10 rebounds and one block in 27 minutes.
Even though he doesn’t fit the team’s scheme perfectly, the Houston Rockets desperately need depth. They have one of the worst rotations in the entire league, and he should shore that up. It will be interesting how much time Faried will get moving forward.
