Kendrick Perkins thinks Rockets’ Russell Westbrook is the reason for James Harden’s amazing start

A lot of people were quite skeptical about the reunion of former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates James Harden and Russell Westbrook with the Houston Rockets over the summer.

The pair of former MVPs, after all, are ball-dominant guards who are most effective when they take over majority of the possessions.

But as far as player-turned-ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins is concerned, the dynamic duo actually complements one another on the court.

Perk even went as far as suggesting that Westbrook is responsible for The Beard’s amazing start to the 2019-20 NBA regular season campaign.

Perkins was right about his assessment of Paul George’s elevated game last year with Westbrook running the point. George did finish third in the MVP voting with stellar averages of 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals.

Harden, meanwhile, is having his best season statistically, leading the league in points per game at 39.2 while shooting an efficient clip of 42.5 percent from the field and 34.0 from downtown.

Westbrook has gladly embraced his new role as second fiddle to Mike D’Antoni’s offense and even vowed to help Harden become one of the best scorers in NBA history.

The Rockets own an NBA-best eight-game winning streak at the moment and are currently second in the West, just a game behind the Los Angeles Lakers.

Westbrook will most likely no longer average a triple-double as he did in the past three seasons, as he is currently just notching 8.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 12 games so far. He is the team’s second-leading scorer, tallying 21.6 points on 42.1 shooting from the field.
