Kendrick Perkins thinks JR Smith will be a nice addition for Rockets

Kendrick Perkins, JR Smith, Rockets

When the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they will be parting ways with JR Smith, most fans thought the entertaining shooting guard was on his way to reuniting with LeBron James in Los Angeles. However, reports say that the Lakers do not have interest in signing Smith.

So where could Swish go?

Former Cavaliers player Kendrick Perkins thinks that his former teammate would be a great addition to the Houston Rockets. He tweeted his thoughts on the fit and encouraged the pairing,

Adding JR Smith to an already crowded backcourt could go either way for the Rockets.

Best case scenario, Smith fits in perfectly as a 3-point threat for a team that values the three ball as much as any team in the league. Smith could come off the bench to provide some scoring punch and show that he has matured by bringing no drama to his team.

Things could go the other way as well. Smith only played in 11 games last season, and it’s possible he comes back rusty and unplayable. The former NBA champion could struggle early and fall out of favor with Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni. Additionally, adding such a big character to a team with Russell Westbrook and James Harden is playing with fire.

While it seems like he is not destined to be a Laker, we could see Smith sign on to his fifth franchise in the next few days.
