Kendrick Perkins thinks Clint Capela is the best center in the NBA
Retired NBA champion big man Kendrick Perkins thinks quite highly of Houston Rockets center Clint Capela. In fact, Perkins believes that Capela happens to be the best big man in the league at the moment.
Speaking on Adrian Wojnarowski’s The Woj Pod, Perkins explained why he is so high on the Rockets’ 24-year-old big man:
“The Rockets are pretty damn good,” he said. “The way that James [Harden] is playing and they also have the best center in the league, in my opinion, in Clint Capela. I love what Clint brings to the table. He finishes around the rim. I’m actually watching him now, he’s actually catching the ball around, you know, when they make the pocket pass he’s making moves getting to the basket, helluva shot blocker, helluva rebounder, he can switch 1 to 5, [and] he runs the floor like no other.”
That’s some pretty high praise coming from Perkins, but it’s a bit of a stretch. There are a lot of outstanding big men in the league today (Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid and Defensive Player of the Year winner Rudy Gobert are a couple who instantly come to mind), and while Capela is very, very good, calling him the best is over the top.
Capela came up big in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round playoff matchup against the Utah Jazz. The 6-foot-10 big man logged a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double as he helped his side secure a lopsided 122-90 victory against the Jazz.
Game 2 is scheduled on Wednesday night, with Capela and the Rockets looking to make it 2-0 against Utah.
