Kendrick Perkins says there’s ‘no doubt’ the Russell Westbrook-James Harden pairing will work
Former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins has “no doubt” the Russell Westbrook-James Harden pairing will work for the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets agreed to a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday to acquire Westbrook. Houston sent Chris Paul and a bevy of picks to OKC in exchange for Russ.

As Kendrick Perkins states, Russell Westbrook and James Harden are like brothers. The two have known each other for a long time and played on the Thunder. However, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy for the two MVPs to play with each other on the Rockets.
Both superstars need the ball in their hands to be successful. Neither Westbrook nor Harden is an effective off-ball player. The two ball-dominant stars are going to have to adjust their games for this pairing to work on the Rockets.
Harden is the better perimeter shooter, while Westbrook is an elite slasher who can get to the rim at will and finish in heavy traffic. A case can be made that Westbrook should have the ball in his hands more than Harden so The Beard can get wide-open looks from the 3-point line when Westbrook drives to the hoop and collapses the defense.
Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni is going to have to tweak his playbook for this duo to have success together, but Perkins is confident it will work out in the end.
