The Houston Rockets lost a tough Game 1 to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night. Their 104-100 defeat led to many complaints from both the players and team officials about the calls.
Many on both sides shared their opinions on the situation, including Rockets star James Harden and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. But the latest to chime in is former NBA center Kendrick Perkins, who joined Undisputed on Tuesday.
“If you’re going against Floyd Mayweather, you have to knock Floyd out,” Perkins said, via FOX Sports on Twitter:. “You can’t take it to decision. … I’m sick of hearing the referees blew the game. No, the Rockets blew the game. They had several opportunities to win, and they didn’t capitalize.”
Kendrick Perkins showed no sympathy for Harden and the Rockets, instead suggesting that the loss was entirely on their shoulders. And he may have a point. Regardless of complaints about the officiating, Houston still had a chance to win the game and might have if not for their serious struggles shooting from beyond the arc.
And Perkins isn’t the only one thinking this way. Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni shared a similar sentiment on Monday, telling reporters that his team just needs “to suck it up.” D’Antoni received a technical foul late in Game 1 for complaining about the game’s officiating.
Game 2 begins on Tuesday night. All eyes will certainly be on the referees for the rest of this series, which should be very competitive. The Rockets and the Warriors are two of the league’s best teams and a single call — or lack thereof — could make the difference in the entire series.
