Jazz star Donovan Mitchell keeps stat sheet from Game 5 vs. Rockets as reminder of what he needs to improve

Jazz, Donovan Mitchell

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell still has the stat sheet from Game 5 of their first-round series against the Houston Rockets. For him, it’s a reminder of what he needs to work on in the offseason.

In Game 5, Mitchell just scored 12 points and was 4-of-22 from the field and 0-of-9 from downtown. These are not exactly the statistics expected from a budding superstar like him. A star always puts his best foot forward in the playoffs.

This summer, Mitchell will use that stat sheet as motivation to get better.

“Fine tuning my skills and finding ways to get better,” Mitchell answered when asked about his plans for the summer, per Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

“I think a lot of it for me is to just be able to be more efficient and finding ways to continue to get better. I think if I can do that and put myself in situations where I am making shots, I may have missed like those 4-of-22 nights. I still have the stat sheet from Game 5 in the playoffs as a reminder to remember what I need to improve on.”

For the 22-year-old, being in shape doesn’t start before the playoffs. Like most players always say, they get better in the offseason — in the months of May, June, and July.

The good thing for Mitchell is that he has already spotted the problem in his game. This summer, we should expect him to find the solution to it and come out as a different player.
