James Harden’s strong message to Rockets fans as season begins

James Harden, Rockets

As the 2019-20 NBA season restarts in Orlando, Houston Rockets superstar James Harden likes his team’s chances in the coming postseason.

James Harden didn’t quite go full Joe Namath and guarantee that the Houston Rockets would leave Disney World as NBA champions, but he delivered a bold prediction to Rockets fans.

When asked what he’d like to stay to his fans that can’t be in attendance, the 2018 MVP said:

“We’re bringing it back to H-Town. We’ve come up short these last few years. This is another opportunity for us to fight for it and get after it again.”

“We’ve got some grinding to do, some working to do, but the goal is to bring it back to H-Town,” Harden added, with the “it” referencing the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Houston has been one the NBA’s top regular-season teams since James Harden arrived 2012, but have been unable to reach the NBA Finals. They lost in the Western Conference Finals in 2015 and 2018, and fell in the second round in 2019. However, three of their past four postseason defeats have come at the hands of the Warriors, who won’t be standing in the way in these unorthodox playoffs.

James Harden, Russell Westbrook and the Rockets (40-24) will continue their small-ball experiment on Friday in a matchup against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks (40-27). Houston currently occupies the no. 6 seed in the Western Conference.

James Harden was averaging a league-leading 34.4 points per game in 61 games before the season paused, to go along with 7.4 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game.

James Harden joined his teammates late in the bubble, though hasn’t shown any signs of rust.
