James Harden’s emotional confession before return to Houston for the first time in a Nets uniform

Nets, James Harden

Wednesday marked the first time James Harden was returning to his former home city following his blockbuster move to the Brooklyn Nets back in January. The Houston Rockets were hosting Harden and the Nets in the Toyota Center, and prior to the game, the former MVP made a confession about his relationship with the team and the city.

In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Harden admitted that Houston continues to hold a special place in his heart:

Harden went out of his way to help out the people of Texas who were severely affected by the winter storms. In his interview above, Harden expressed why he felt it was his responsibility to reach out to those afflicted by the adverse weather conditions in the state.

Unfortunately, Harden’s parting of ways with the Rockets did not come in the best of terms. He pretty much forced his way out of the team, as he lobbied for a move to Brooklyn to join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. This wasn’t received too well by the Rockets faithful (and NBA fans in general), but at this point, it all seems like water under the bridge.

The Rockets came out with a touching tribute for Harden during the game to show their appreciation for all that he has given to the franchise in the past eight years. When his name was called during the staring lineups, some of the fans actually started booing him. However, it was all cheers after the tribute was played, serving as proof that the Rockets faithful still hold Harden in high regard.
